About Me

Dr. Mohamed Adam Shaban is a fellowship-trained, board-certified pediatric gastroenterologist with Pediatric Gastroenterology Associates of Southern California (PGASC) at the Long Beach and Torrance offices.

His clinical interests include hepatology, including the emerging incidence of fatty liver disease in children; inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis); childhood obesity and nutrition, and advancements in endoscopic technology for diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.

Dr. Shaban received his medical degree from the Alexandria University School of Medicine and completed his residency at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, Paul L. Foster School of Medicine in El Paso TX.  He then completed a three year fellowship in pediatric gastroenterology at Westchester Medical Center, New York Medical College, Valhalla NY.  He is board certified by the American Board of Pediatrics in General Pediatrics and Pediatric Gastroenterology.

Prior to joining PGASC, Dr. Shaban served as an attending gastroenterology consultant and physician educator at Valley Children’s Hospital in Madera, CA where he provided teaching and mentoring to pediatric residents; served as academic chief for pediatric gastroenterology; coordinated resident didactics; board preparations; and gastroenterology elective leadership role in EMR development.  His research has been published in Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition, Physiological Reports, Journal of Applied Physiology, and Journal of American Heart Association.

He is an active member of the North American Society of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Hepatology (NASPGHAN) and received an award in studying the impact of breastfeeding friendly environments, and services on promoting healthy weight gain in newborn infants during his residency.  He was involved in community outreach podcast navigating infant formula shortage with Valley Children’s Hospital.

Dr. Shaban enjoys bike riding, advancements in technology, photography, traveling, racing RC planes and cars.
