About Me

Michael Roh, MD is board certified in ophthalmology and fellowship trained as a specialist in vitreo-retinal surgery. Dr. Roh has been in private practice with the South Coast Retina Center since 2006. He sees patients in Torrance, Long Beach, and Huntington Beach. He provides care for patients with a wide variety of conditions, including diabetic retinopathy, macular degeneration, macular pucker, macular hole, retinal detachment, retinal vascular occlusions, among many other retinal conditions.

Dr. Roh graduated with Cum Laude honors from Duke University where he majored in Biology and minored in East Asian Studies. He was awarded the prestigious Sirena WuDunn Memorial Scholarship for his academic excellence and for his contributions to the Asian Pacific Studies Institute at Duke University. Dr. Roh then earned his medical degree from the Ohio State University College of Medicine with Honors and was in the top 10th percentile of his graduating class in grade point average and on his USMLE Board scores. Dr. Roh completed a preliminary internal medicine year at Evanston Northwestern Hospital, and then his ophthalmology residency at George Washington University. He served as chief resident during his ophthalmology residency. Dr. Roh published his work during residency in the Journal of Oculoplastics and Reconstructive Surgery and presented this material at an international conference in Gothenberg, Sweden in 2003.

Dr. Roh received his fellowship training in Birmingham, Alabama where he completed a clinical fellowship in vitreo-retinal surgery with the Retina Specialists of Alabama and through the University of Alabama, Birmingham. Dr. Roh completed a research fellowship sponsored by the Helen Keller Foundation for Research and Education and the American Society of Ocular Trauma. In 2005, Dr. Roh lectured throughout China as a representative of the Helen Keller Foundation.

Dr. Roh has volunteered his surgical expertise in Honduras and looks forward to plan and devote more of his time to these endeavors in the future. Dr. Roh served as Vice-Chairman and then Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center from 2010 through 2013. He is also an active member of the American Medical Association, the Los Angeles County Medical Association, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Orange County Society of Ophthalmology, and the American Society of Retina Specialists.

Dr. Roh lives in Huntington Beach with his wife Lily, daughter Kayla, and son Kenton. He enjoys spending time with his family, tennis, golf, and playing the violin.
