About Me

Maritza Ruiz, M.D., is a pediatric hematologist/oncologist at Jonathan Jaques Children's Cancer Institute at MemorialCare Miller Children’s & Women’s Hospital Long Beach. She is currently an assistant clinical professor in pediatrics at the David Geffen School of Medicine at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). She was certified in general pediatrics by American Board of Pediatrics in 2010, and pediatric hematology/oncology by American Board of Pediatrics in 2015. Dr. Ruiz received her medical degree and completed her residency at Harbor UCLA Medical Center and fellowship at Children’s Hospital of Orange County and University of California, Irvine's School of Medicine.

Dr. Ruiz has presented on several topics such as pediatric sarcomas, healthcare disparities in pediatric oncology, assessment of health behaviors in Hispanic and non-Hispanic white adolescent and young adult childhood cancer survivors. She has a published peer-reviewed research paper on the influence of age and ethnicity on substance use of behaviors of adolescent and young adult childhood cancer survivors. Her areas of interest include pediatric cancer survivorship, health behaviors in survivors, and health-related quality of life in long-term survivors, aplastic anemia, ITP - Immune thrombocytopenia, and HLH - hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis.
