About Me

Mario Brakin, M.D.m is board certified in pediatrics and pediatric endocrinology. He began his medical training in Argentina over forty years ago. During that time he was awarded many honors including the Golden Medal and Suma Cum Laude Diploma for academic excellence.

In 1979 Dr. Brakin set up practice in California after completing his residency in Pediatrics at Maimonides Medical Center and fellowship training in Pediatric Endocrinology and at Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center, both are affiliated with Downstate University Medical School in Brooklyn, New York.

In addition to his private practice, he is currently a Clinical Professor of Pediatrics at the University of California, Irvine and director of pediatric endocrinology at MemorialCare Miller Children's & Women's Hospital Long Beach. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics and holds membership in many local, regional and national medical societies.

Dr. Brakin received Outstanding Volunteer Faculty Awards in 1987-1988 and 1999 from the UCI Department of Pediatrics and Physician of the Year Awards in 1987, 1989, 1997, 1998, 2004, 2006 and 2007 from the nursing staff at Miller Children's & Women's, Super Doctor in Endocrinology, Los Angels Magazine in 2008, 2010 and 2011, and Miller Children's & Women's Parent's Choice Award 2010.

He specializes in childhood diabetes (with special interest in insulin pump therapy), obesity, short stature/growth disorders, diseases of the thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal glands, diabetes insipidus as well as precocious and delayed puberty.
