Jesse W Tan, MD

Dr. Jesse W. Tan is a board-certified surgeon who specializes in head and neck surgery/otolaryngology and is the medical director of the Tan Head & Neck Center in Long Beach. In addition, he serves as the Chief of Staff at MemorialCare Long Beach Medical Center. 

After completing his undergraduate studies at the University of California, Los Angeles, he received his medical degree from Albany Medical College where he graduated with honors. Dr. Tan completed a 6-year residency training program in head and neck surgery/otolaryngology at UCLA Medical Center. He is trained in all aspects of the specialty, including head and neck tumors, sinus problems, laryngeal and voice disorders, ear disorders, pediatric ENT, and facial plastic and reconstructive surgery.

He has special training in thyroid and parathyroid surgery and has brought cutting-edge technology in this field to Long Beach Medical Center. This technology includes minimally invasive thyroid and parathyroid surgery, intra-operative recurrent laryngeal nerve monitoring, intra-operative parathyroid hormone assays for parathyroid surgery, and robotic thyroid/parathyroid surgery. Dr. Tan established the robotic head and neck surgery program in 2010. 

In addition to his clinical responsibilities, Dr. Tan has leadership roles in health care administration, surgery, and medical education. He serves as Chief of Staff at Long Beach Medical Center and is responsible for providing leadership and guidance to the medical staff, hospital administration and the Board of Trustees. Previously, he served on the Medical Executive Committee (2018 – 2019); chair of the Department of Surgery, overseeing all surgical divisions (2014 – 2017); and chair of the Head & Neck Surgery/Otolaryngology Section (2008 – 2013).

Dr. Tan is a Fellow with the American College of Surgeons (ACS) and clinical assistant professor of surgery (head and neck) at the UCLA School of Medicine.
