About Me

Dr. Jason T. Wong, MD, FRSCS is a board-certified, fellowship-trained Laparoscopic and Robotic surgeon, specializing in the treatment of abdominal and digestive disorders in the safest, least invasive manner possible.

Born and raised in Saskatchewan, Canada, Dr. Wong attended Medical School at the University of Saskatchewan College of Medicine, where he graduated with Great Distinction. During his residency in General Surgery at the University of Saskatchewan he was inspired by the remarkably improved postoperative pain and shortened hospital stays incurred by patients undergoing laparoscopic procedures and decided to dedicate himself to minimally invasive surgery (MIS), the principle of producing the best surgical outcomes while causing the least trauma to the patient, often with the assistance of cutting-edge technology. Following his residency Dr. Wong furthered his training with a two-year fellowship with Dr. Lee Swanström of the Oregon Clinic, one of the worldwide leaders in MIS. Dr. Wong joined the faculty at the University of Massachusetts in 2005, where he was an Assistant Professor of Surgery in the Division of Minimally Invasive Surgery until relocating to California in 2010.

Dr. Wong’s clinical areas of expertise include gastrointestinal surgery (surgery of the esophagus, stomach, colon and rectum), gallbladder surgery, and solid organ surgery (removal of the spleen and adrenal glands). He also has considerable expertise in complex hernia repair. He is a member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, the American College of Surgeons, and has authored numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals such as Gastroenterology, Surgical Endoscopy, Surgical Innovation and surgical textbooks. Dr. Wong’s goal is to deliver the highest quality of caring, compassionate surgical care to each and every patient and he was awarded the Patient and Family Centered Care Champion Award at MemorialCare Saddleback Medical Center in 2013.

Dr. Wong is fluent in English, French and Cantonese; he is currently learning Mandarin. In his personal time, Dr. Wong enjoys spending time with his family. His hobbies include golf, hockey, and snowboarding.
