About
Devin K. Binder, MD, PhD is a distinguished board-certified and fellowship-trained neurosurgeon and neuroscientist specializing in the treatment of neck pain, lower back pain, sciatica, brain tumors, Parkinson's disease and essential tremor, as well as other conditions requiring brain or spine surgery. Dr. Binder is both a professor and researcher at the University of California, Riverside, where he runs the National Institutes of Health-funded Translational Neuroscience Laboratory. Dr. Binder has performed over 3,000 neurosurgical procedures and employs modern minimally-invasive spine and brain surgery techniques. His clinical expertise includes minimally-invasive spine surgery, deep brain stimulation and functional neurosurgery, epilepsy surgery and brain tumor surgery. He is at the forefront of offering cutting-edge technology such as MR-guided focused ultrasound for treatment of patients with essential tremor and tremor-dominant Parkinson’s Disease and is the single most experienced neurosurgeon performing MRgFUS cases on the West Coast. Dr. Binder believes strongly in patient-centered compassionate care, and his greatest fulfillment derives from the delivery of state-of-the-art neurosurgical care to improve the quality of life of patients in need.
Dr. Binder grew up in California, attended Harvard University, where he majored in Biological Anthropology, and then received combined M.D. and Ph. D. degrees from Duke University. He subsequently completed his surgical internship and neurological surgery residency training at the University of California, San Francisco. After being awarded a prestigious one-year international traveling neurosurgery fellowship in Germany, he has been in neurosurgery practice in southern California since 2006.
At UC Riverside, Dr. Binder teaches neuroanatomy to medical students and has won multiple teaching awards. His work within the Translational Neuroscience Laboratory is funded by grants from the NIH as well as the Department of Defense and various foundations. Dr. Binder’s research background and Ph.D. in neuroscience enable him to critically evaluate evidence-based approaches and apply the latest technologies. Dr. Binder is actively engaged in developing new devices to treat brain and spine conditions and novel techniques to improve patient outcomes.
