About Me

Dr. Johnson is originally from Minneapolis. He completed his undergraduate studies Magna Cum Laude and a member of the Phi Beta Kappa honor society at the University of California, San Diego's Revelle College with a Bachelor of Science in biochemistry/chemistry. Subsequently, he earned his medical degree at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, graduating as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society.

He pursued Orthopaedic Surgery residency training at Northwestern University in Chicago, where he was elected Chief Administrative resident and was awarded journal club grants from the Journal of Bone and Joint Surgery/Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation. He was also awarded a Hark Lectureship grant, and served as a team physician for the Chicago Public Schools' athletic program. His position as chief resident earned him the opportunity to work at spring training with the Chicago Cubs.

Following residency, he completed a spine surgery fellowship at the University of California, San Diego under Dr. Steven R. Garfin. During his fellowship, he worked with both neuro and orthopaedic spine surgeons to learn advanced surgical techniques in the treatment of spinal disorders. Dr. Johnson practices all aspects of operative spine care, and treats the cervical, thoracic and lumbar spine, and has lectured numerous times both locally and regionally on spinal disorders and treatments. He specializes in both open and minimally invasive techniques of spinal surgery. In 2008, Dr Johnson served as Chief of Orthopaedic Surgery at Saddleback Medical Center, and, in 2010, he was Chief of Surgery at Saddleback Medical Center.
